Lesson 1: Expressing Opinions and Giving Reasons

In this lesson, we will learn how to express opinions and give reasons effectively in English.

Expressing Opinions:

• I think (that)...** Example: "I think that this movie is really entertaining."
• In my opinion...** Example: "In my opinion, traveling is a great way to broaden your horizons."
• From my perspective...** Example: "From my perspective, the decision was the right one."
• It seems to me...** Example: "It seems to me that she's not happy with the outcome."
• I believe (that)...** Example: "I believe that everyone should have equal opportunities."

Giving Reasons:

• Because...** Example: "I couldn't attend the party because I was feeling unwell."
• Due to...** Example: "The delay was due to bad weather conditions."
• Since...** Example: "She has been working hard since she wants to get a promotion."
• As a result of...** Example: "As a result of his efforts, the project was successful."
• Owing to...** Example: "Owing to his expertise, he was chosen for the leadership position."

Combining Opinions and Reasons:

• I believe (that) + reason.** Example: "I believe that exercising regularly is essential for maintaining good health."
• In my opinion, + reason.** Example: "In my opinion, reducing plastic usage is crucial for protecting the environment."
• Because + opinion.** Example: "Because she studied diligently, she aced the exam."

Practice:

Think of various topics and express your opinions about them using the phrases we learned. For example, talk about your favorite book, a movie you recently watched, or a social issue that matters to you. Practice giving reasons to support your opinions.
